the making of a top

October 7, 2010

Today I feel like showing you a bit of the ‘behind the scenes’. You can see that I wear the flowery pants in the previous post with a shirt, made from the same beige tricot as the top in this post. Well, these are the pics from the making process. Usually my whole living room becomes a mess when I start to draw a pattern and cut the fabric. When I’m not sure about the pattern, I try a quick version in a cheap fabric first. It takes longer, but it saves you fabric and frustration. The t-shirt I’m making here doesn’t have any shoulder seams and closes on the back. Tomorrow I’ll show what it turned out like!

geometric pullover – part 2

September 8, 2010

In the previous post I showed a sweater I wasn’t completely happy with, so here’s the promised sequel to the pictures. I hate taking something I made apart again, but I hate ill-fitting clothes even more.. So I ripped out the seems and got started. The sand colored side pieces no longer continue to the sleeves and the beige front and back pieces are narrowed a few centimeters too. It’s still a comfy sweater with lots of space to move, but the silhouette is just a bit more slender. I stitched the whole thing back together again, ready for Eelke’s lens:

geometric pullover

September 6, 2010

Do you recognize this one? It’s the pullover I drew a few weeks ago when I came back from holiday. I’m quite happy with the colors, but not so much with the fit to be honest. The sleeves are made from one big piece of tricot, the front and back are exact squares and the side pieces continue to form the inside of the sleeves. I think the whole thing came out a bit too oversized, giving it too much of a pyjama feel. The solution? I’ll show you later..

new combinations

I told you already how much I like the yellow/beige/brown combination…

beige top

August 11, 2010

Yay, new shots! Just before sunset, when the light is golden and the shadows have a cool blue tone Eelke and I set out for a small shoot. The harbour pier is one of my favourite places nearby (especially when the surf’s up) and also a great place to get coffee and look out over see.
I’m quite happy with this top because I’m really into those beige sandy colors lately, as you could see in the previous post. Particularly in combination with brown or warm yellow accents. And yes, that is the bracelet I made earlier on my wrist.
