If you have looked at the yin yang bag tutorial, you might have noticed the big eyelets that I used to lead the holding strap through. These are the biggest you can still hammer in by hand, without using a real press. Since I’ve had a few questions concerning where to buy them and how to add them to your piece of work, I decided to write a short tutorial about them. Read the rest of this entry »

red skirt plus blouse
April 27, 2011Red skirt, theĀ new blouse and the grey vest I made some time ago. Golden hour at a metrostation in The Hague, pictures by Eelke. Isn’t it a good combination?

blouse details
April 22, 2011Here’s the detail picture of the neckline I promised in the previous post. As I said yesterday, the pattern I used as a basis was intended for a dress with raglan sleeves and a wrinkled neckline. Often with raglan sleeves a dart is needed at the top of the shoulders to get rid of excess fabric around the neckline. A wrinkled neckline solves that problem too and adds a decorative element. Most of the width of the inital pattern was in the bodice of the dress. The armscye is always a tricky part, so I left it exactly as it was. To reduce the width in the bodice, I took out approximately 10 cm in the middle and adjusted the neckline a bit. Because it’s such a loose blouse, the side seams are straight without any darts at bust height, which made it easy to adjust the pattern like this.
Because the fabric for this blouse was so light an a little bit transparant, I decided to use french seams. I really like how they give a very neat finish on the inside of a garment, but I only use them when the seams are fairly straight.

spring and a blouse
April 21, 2011The weather is getting better around here, so I’m very glad I’ve made this light and airy summerblouse. I like the print very much, it’s got a bit of a japanese feel to it. So it fits that I used the pattern for a dress with a wide wrinkled neckline from a japanese sewing book I mentioned months ago. The pattern was intended for a dress, but I made it a bit tighter and a lot shorter to make this blouse. More details tomorrow!

purple pants
April 18, 2011Months ago I wrote a post about some new fabrics I had just bought. Despite the myriad of ideas swimming around in my head, transforming those pieces of cloth into something wearable is not a rapid process. In that post I showed a soft rusty-purple-grey-ish fabric, which is the one I used for these trousers. The waist is quite high, and I combined the closure a-symmetrically with a pocket. A little bit like the green trousers, but now only on one side and with two small buttons. I like their old-fashioned feel so much I always tuck in what I’m wearing above these pants, which shows off the high waist as well. The grey vest, scarf and beige shirt were all made last summer.

red skirt again
April 14, 2011These pictures are more the result of Eelke playing around with his new flash unit, than me having new clothes to show.. Everything I’m wearing has been shown on this blog before, but the fact that I can combine items shows that my initial goal of creating my own wardrobe seems to work. Although, to be really honest, the prettiest things are always the ideas that I haven’t had the time to make yet. Friends of mine are getting married this summer, so you can imagine how many festive and elegant summer dresses are swimming around my head. But that’s a question for later, right now I’m happy to show you this red skirt again.
