Shameless selfpromotion today. Remember the purses I showed last week? I wrote a step-by-step instruction to show on BurdaStyle. You can find a scale 1 pattern on that site too, or just write me an email if you want to make the purse yourself. To celebrate the immense ammount of visitors I’ve had this week via The yellow umbrella, Dutch handmade, and Burdastyle, I decided to give away the purse that I made to take pirctures for the instruction. This one doesn’t have the little carabin hook that the other purses have, but it is equally well made from genuine leather. So, who will be subscriber 254 to my email list?

leather purse
March 7, 2011It’s been a productive weekend. No clothes this time, I badly needed a purse. It may be a girl thing, but I really felt more organized the minute I put my phone, lipbalm and bicycle keys in one of the three purses I made. All those tiny items that tend to hide in the dark corners of my bags now go in my purse. The design is based on the ying yang bag, with the original ‘ears’ of the bag now elongated into two flaps. The flaps fold over to close the purse, and create a nice color accent because I used different colors for the front and the back of the purse.
The step by step instruction to make this purse yourself can be found here.

from bits and scraps
February 27, 2011Leather is a rather costly material, and difficult to come by when you just need little bits. I get mine from a place that fixes leather sofa’s or car interiors. They sell their left-over bits and the leather that has been damaged for a very reasonable price. Especially when you know that some of the hides would kost 175 euro per square meter, if you want a good quality hide.. This all explains why I keep even the tiniest bits and scraps in a big plastic bag. Today, on a sunday afternoon with the rain pouring down, I decided to look inside that bag and see if I could turn some of those bits into something useful. So here’s the result: five nice leather bracelets. Wanna have one? I put them in my etsyshop, because it did become a bit empty with almost all the ying yang bags sold.

mittens – part 2
February 8, 2011Finding the right material is the hardest part. Since the start of this project friends began to bring me their left-over bits and pieces of material. Lucky me who got a piece of the most gorgeous crinkled black leather, that once came out of some Hugo Boss stock. In the right glove you can see how I cut out a thin bit and replaced it with a thicker piece of the same leather. For warmth, they are lined with the same woolen fabric as I used for my winter coat.
Some making of pics, and the trick to the wrinkles at the wrist after the jump. Read the rest of this entry ?

just a collar
February 3, 2011I don’t really like the sound of the word ‘collar’, so when I looked for a synonym I came across a whole list on wikipedia. I didn’t even know that many varieties of collars existed! And to make matters worse, it didn’t help me to determine the correct name for the collar I made at all. So I’ll just stick to this: it’s a collar that I can wear by itself, almost like a collier. The extremely thick wool I used (intended for making tapestries), gives a chunky feel which I really like. Especially in combination with crochet. The wool is a bit prickly, so I don’t wear this collar on bare skin. But that’s just a minor inconvenience.

bonnet
January 9, 2011Maybe a bit late, but no less sincere: I hope you’ve all had great holidays, and wish you a happy and creative 2011!
Each day that I didn’t post something new, it seemed to become more difficult to do so. It’s true: I’ve been quiet for far too long. In stead of making new winter clothes, I went to Marocco for a surf and a rest. I came back with loads of inspiration but without new projects to show, I’m sorry.. However, today the silence is ended with this new picture of the bonnet I started ages ago. The hem is finished with one round of crochet, and I added a lining in dark grey tricot to protect the back of the knitting and get a nice smooth inside.
