sketches

November 1, 2010

The shots from the shoot with Eelke at the gemeentemuseum are now finished, so I really need to get back behind the sewing machine. There are quite some new things I need: a dress for the opening of the international design biennale in St Etienne, a really warm winter jacket to survive the cold and at least two more trousers because I’ve got ideas that are waiting to be made. To fill the time until I’ve actually made something and show you how it’s done, I decided to show a bit of the process. I always carry a little notebook to doodle new designs whenever they spring to mind, quite often when I’m waiting for a train or doing the dishes. I’m not a great sketcher like this , but it serves the purpose.

  1. Dear Renske,
I have been following your blog for some time now and I love the things you create and your wonderful idea of making all your clothes yourself. Just wanted to stop by and tell you this! ;)
P.S.: I would be so glad, if I were able to sketch like you! Guess I will have to try harder!
P.P.S.: I used your minimalist tote bag tutorial and it was wonderful! I will let you know, as soon as I upload my version (just in case that you are interested).

  2. I’ve been thinking today of similar pants – with similar pleats (if I got your idea correctly) but very wide at the ankle.
It’s nice to see that you’re planning something warm ^___^

    • Hi Lizaveta, that sounds like a very good idea too! With this idea I want to make a ‘neutral’ pants with just one detail that stands out. I’m in the process of making it, but controlling the extra fabric in the pleats is difficult..

  3. Just wanted to say: I like your blog and your clothes is great! Great work girl!!! =)

    • Thanks!!

  4. Love seeing the sketches, I often don’t spend enough time in that stage to work out details.

P.S. When I blogged about thedressimade I accidently called it the dress is made. Oops! Fixed it now!

  5. That’s awesome! You’re so talented. Do you make dresses like this for wearing? I’ve been looking on http://www.gatheringguide.com for something similar.
