undecided

May 30, 2010

This weekend I started on a grey linen dress. The inspiration for it was this picture I came across via Celine’s blog. I wanted to alter it a bit, but I couldn’t decide how to change the dress. I tried out different versions, as you can see, but I wasn’t happy with any of them. What to do?

the basics

May 30, 2010

At the start of this blog I said I would only wear things I made myself. Well, today I picked a few favourites and packed all the rest of my clothes (apart from socks and underwear) in a big suitcase. All of it is will be locked up until I decide to quit this project. My wardrobe until I make more: grey jeans, tights, a jeans short, a black and a grey top and my beige cardigan. As accessories I kept my COS necklace, a blue and a brown belt. And of course the dress I made earlier this week. That’s it.

dress nr 1

The fastest way to get ‘dressed’ is to make one, I figured. This one is actually quite simple. It’s straight and a bit oversized, with a belt to accentuate the waistline. I chose a contrasting warm yellow leather for the belt and used the same material for the accent on the collar.

introducing: me

May 25, 2010

So here I am, feeling naked and nervous. My first blog post, introducing me.

I think this started when I got my first sewing machine. A Niemann, one of those antique machines where you need one hand to drive the machine and the other to lead the fabric through. My teddybear got quite a collection of crooked dresses after that.

But today I’m on a mission. My wardrobe is a mess, I’m dissatisfied with the clothes at H&M and I don’t want to pay ridiculous prices for designer pieces that are quite simple to make yourself. Starting today I will try to wear and make my own clothes, and keep you posted on the process.
